Gini coefficient

The Gini coefficient is a measure of income inequality. It is an index ranging between 0 and 1, where 0 corresponds to absolute equality and 1 to absolute inequality. The Gini coefficient represents the area between the Lorenz curve and the line of absolute equality. The indicator is calculated as the simple average of the Gini coefficients for the IDB borrowing member countries for which data is available.
